Questions and answers
How much does the Kathmandu to Lukla Charter Helicopter Flight cost?
A private charter on this route starts from US$3,200 per flight and carries up to five passengers, so the cost can be shared between the group. Final pricing depends on weight, waiting time and any extra stops.
How long is the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla?
About 40 minutes in the air. Exact time depends on the route, wind and whether the helicopter stops to refuel.
How much baggage can I carry on a helicopter?
Helicopters have strict weight limits at altitude, so baggage is usually limited to about 10-15 kg per passenger. Give accurate passenger and bag weights when booking so the pilot can plan the load.
When is the best time for this flight?
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) have the clearest skies. Flights are weather-dependent, so if cloud closes the route we reschedule to the next suitable window.

Kathmandu to Lukla Charter Helicopter Flight connects Kathmandu (1,400 m) with Lukla (2,860 m) in roughly 40 minutes. It is operated as a private charter: the whole helicopter, up to five passengers, is yours, and the departure time is set around your plans rather than a shared schedule.
Travellers choose this flight for the return leg of an Everest-region trek. After days at altitude, a short flight replaces a long descent on tired knees, and it removes the risk of missing an international connection because of a delayed Lukla departure. It is also a practical option when altitude, injury or weather make walking out unattractive.

Weather, weight and safety
Mountain flying depends on visibility, wind and temperature. Thin air reduces what a helicopter can lift, which is why passenger and baggage weights matter and why flights usually operate in the morning. Carry travel insurance that covers helicopter use and evacuation, and keep a spare day in your schedule.
